The popular game, The Witcher, will soon cross to the big screen with the upcoming movie which is currently slated for 2017 release date. However, it is believed to lean more on its book sources, and as revealed by the director recently, itwill have a budget of $30 million.
Geralt will soon appear in the big screen as the project has been officially sealed for a 2017 release. According to Euro Gamer, The Witcher will side more on the two short stories, The Witcher and The Lesser Evil written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.
The Witcher centers on the Geraldt who confronts a monster from a double coffin of a mother and daughter who died during child birth. Meanwhile, The Lesser Evil centers on Renfri, the cursed daughter of nobility. Also, Projekt Red, who made the games, will not be involved in the film, thus making the project ore of an adaptation from the stories.
As reported by Games Radar, Polish director Tomasz Baginski will direct the film, while Grimm screenwriter Thania St. John will be in charge of the script. The Witcher movie will be produced by The Sean Daniel Company, who also produced The Mummy.
No actors have been officially chosen, although Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman, and Christian Bale have been some of the many names who have are considered by fans to be suitable for the character of Geralt.
Moreover, according to Kotaku, director Baginski revealed during an interview in an entertainment site naEKRANIE, that the film will have a budget between $20 million to $30 million. He further mentioned that an English speaking actor will be casted for the lead role, and the shortlist of actors have already been written.
Filming locations for The Witcher include Poland and Eastern Europe. The fillm is currently slated to hit theaters some time in 2017. Information are presently scarce for the project but more details are expected to be revealed when production makes progress.
