Samsung Galaxy Note 4 can now obtain the Android 6.0 Marshmallow using the CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM. With this, Note 4 users can experience the new features and enhancements Google's latest Android OS provides.
Before proceeding to the steps on how to install the custom ROM Android M, International Business Times stated the prerequisites of the installation. Users who wanted to attempt installing should keep in mind that that the CM13 ROM is supported only on the Galaxy Note 4 and it does not support other model. They also have to ensure that TWRP recovery is installed and bootloader is unlocked on the device.
Another reminder is to verify that the correct USB drivers are installed on the computer to enable transfer of ROM and Gapps to the device's internal storage. The device must also have at least 80% battery charge before users begin installing the firmware to prevent unexpected device shutdown during the process. Lastly, they have to back up all important data and settings on the device to prevent accidental data loss during the firmware installation.
As for the steps on installation, Neurogadget cited the procedure on how to update the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 into Android Marshmallow using the custom ROM. The first thing that the users have to do is to download the Android 6.0 Marshmallow CyanogenMod 13 ROM zip file (for Galaxy Note 4) and the Google Apps zip file on their computer.
After that, they will have to connect their Galaxy Note 4 to their computer using an USB cable, then copy the two zips files to the microSD that's attached to their mobile device. Next, they need to turn off the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and boot in into Recovery Mode by pressing and holding the Power, Volume Up and Home Buttons. When the device boots into Recovery Mode, they will need to use the TWRP tool to wipe the Dalvik Cache, Cache, System and Data.
Once the data has been deleted, they have to return to the main menu and select "install ZIP from SDcard". At this point, firstly choose the Android 6.0 Marshmallow CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM zip file and once it is successfully installed, do the similar steps with the Google Apps zip file.
After these two zip files are installed, they will need to go once again to the main menu and select "reboot system now", once the Galaxy Note 4 boots, users will notice that it now runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM.
As noted by Latin Post, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was launched in the market on October 2014 and can only be officially updated with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. This 5.7-inch screen phablet sports a Super AMOLED touchscreen with 1440 x 2560p resolution and 551 ppi pixel density.
The users of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 who wish to upgrade their handsets into Android 6.0 Marshmallow using the CyanogenMod 13 ROM should keep in mind that this is at their own risk. It is also advised for those who want to explore that they have to be knowledgeable on this matters as it may brick their Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
