After Android 6.0 Marshallow has been released by Google last September 29, many manufacturers have been very busy bringing the update to their smartphones. Sony has recently made the Android M available to Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact Z3 and other pioneer models with Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
Latin Post said on its article that on Monday that Sony made software binaries for AOSP Android 6.0 Marshmallow available for download on its developer tools page. The AOSP also has an updated build guide to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow running on the unlocked Sony Xperia device.
Sony gave the lists of the software binaries on the Android M download page for the following Xperia models: Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra, and Xperia T3.
According to Phone Arena, the company has added the new Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact to its Open Device program as an assurance that developers can run open-source versions of Android on Sony Xperia devices.
Sony stated that "Through the Open Device program, we provide these resources early for the community, so that you have time to learn, build and test new Android features, or use them on your custom ROM." With this, the developers who wanted to try the binaries can work with Sony through contribution of patches upstrean to GitHub. The Japanese tech giant is also open for feedback and suggestion for them to know which areas still needs improvement.
Developers and other individuals that are knowledgeable with software upgrades can try the binaries for AOSP Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, Z3 and other models as long as they have an unlocked device. Meanwhile, if users don't have any experience with coding, it is more advisable for them to wait for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow over-the-air rollout.
