Godzilla vs King Kong slated for 2020 release; Monarch in Kong Skull Island the link between stories?

By

Two of the largest monsters to ever appear in the big screen are fearing up for their upcoming outing together in Godzilla vs King Kong. The project was confirmed to be released in 2020 while plot speculations suggest what could be the connecting thread between two stories.

It is giant vs giant as the upcoming project has been confirmed to hit theaters in 2020 after their respective solo outings. According to Movie News Guide, Warner Bros has slated to release the film after Kong: Skull Island in 2017 and Godzilla 2 in 2018.

The year 2019 was left clean by the studio, although, it could be slated for its other films such as Pacific Rim 2, or it could also be used for Godzilla vs King Kong production. Plot details for the film are unknown as of yet but as reported by Screen Rant, a reference to Monarch will be made in Kong: Skull Island which could be the connecting thread.

In the Godzilla comic book prequel, Monarch was featured as an organization which was created to monitor, study, and hunt Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms (MUTO). It was created in 1946 after the WWII. And given J.K. Simmon's previous revelation about the film being set in 1970s, Monarch could still be existing in such time, and thus the reference in the King of the Apes' solo movie.

Moreover, Reel Tours Hawaii has also posted a video on their Twitter page of helicopters around the set. According to Scified, the helicopters could be Bell UH-1 Iroquois military helicopters which were first introduced in 1959, which could mean that the film is set in late 1950s or early 1960s. As the trade suggested, the helicopters could be from the Monarch as they monitor the area where King Kong lives along with other MUTO species.

However, it is worth noting that these speculations are currently fan-based, thus must be taken with a grain of salt. No directors and writers have been tapped for Godzilla vs King Kong yet, but more will be revealed as the project moves toward its 2020 release.
