The fourth season of History Channel's hit TV series "Vikings" will be bittersweet for many fans. Lead star Travis Fimmel, who plays the role of King Ragnar Lothbrok, has confirmed his departure on the show to focus on a big screen acting. With the King of Denmark's departure, many are now wondering who the next king, or queen, will be.
According to Master Herald, the producers and showrunners have to rely on the other cast members of "Vikings" to pick up the slack and work together to fill the very big shoes to be vacated by Flemming. Rumor has it that this season's storyline will focus on Ragnar's sons Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) and Ivar the Boneless, his wife Aslaugh, Queen of Denmark (Alyssa Sutherland) and Ragnar's brother King Rognvaldsson Rollo (Clive Standen).
A post from Crossmap details how these different characters will be shown in the upcoming season. Bjorn, as the eldest son of King Ragnar, is the rightful heir to the throne and most rumors claim that Bjorn will be overthrowing his father and will be the new King of Denmark. However, his brother Ivar will block any effort Bjorn will make to get the throne.
Rollo, on the other hand, also wants to seat the throne as the new king. In the third season of Vikings, Rollo betrayed his brother for land, titles and a marriage to the daughter of Emperor Charles of France. It is rather likely that he would betray his brother again for the throne.
Meanwhile, the Queen of Denmark seems reluctant to let go of the power while Ragnar was gone from Kattegat and she was left in charge. It is speculated that she is also eyeing the throne.
There is no confirmation yet on how King Ragnar will depart from the show and speculations arise whether he will be killed by his sons or die a natural death or an illness. However, before his departure on Vikings, he is expected to meet a new love in the upcoming season to be played by Chinese actress Dianne Doan, according to another post from Master Herald.
Season four of the Vikings will premiere on 2016 on History Channel.
