After much speculation on the new series' premiere date, FOX finally announced that Lucifer will premier in winter, specifically on January 25, 2016, following The X-Files series. Meanwhile, a new comic book is set to launch on December.
In a post by Variety, FOX released the schedules not only for the new series but to other highly-anticipated season premieres of other shows including Hell's Kitchen, American Idol and New Girl. FOX also introduces four new comedies to their lineup such as new ensemble comedy Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life and new animated satire Bordertown. Lucifer will follow The X-Files series, which will be launched on January 24 with a two-night event.
DC's Lucifer is blowing the horn like a charismatic pied piper according to Fangoria. The plot will be staying true to the LUCIFER mythos created by Mike Carey in the comic version, including having him retire from Hell in L.A. and run a piano bar called The Lux. It will also feature his confidant Mazikeen, a daughter of Lilith, and will focus on him helping the LAPD by punishing criminals all the while questioning his own moral compass.
DC is also coming up with a new comic book of the same name and will be released on December 18, 2015. The comic book, created by Holly Black and Lee Garbett, is about the story of Gabriel and Lucifer solving the case on the murder of God together. According to the synopsis, "Gabriel has accused Lucifer of His murder. Lucifer had motive and opportunity, but claims he can prove his innocence and their investigation will span Heaven, Hell, Earth and beyond in this antagonistic buddy-cop noir with an angelic flair."
Meanwhile, the writers of the show surprised their fans by tweeting the titles of episodes two and three along with a photo of the script. In a post from Youth Health, the titles for the two episodes are "Lucifer Stay, Good Devil" and "Manly Whatnots", respectively.
Lucifer is a story of the lord of hell who opted to stay on Earth after getting bored in hell and has become engrossed in a murder case. The series stars Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Lesley-Ann Brandt, DB Woodside and Rachael Harris.
