Samsung Galaxy Note 3 LTE (N9005) users were saddened upon knowing that their handsets won't be receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. But recently, a custom ROM for this device was made available so its owners will have the chance to experience the Lollipop update.
According to Realty Today, the custom ROM developer Phronesis has released the new Lollipop version of Android 5.1.1 for the handsets of Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The software has a 1.3GB size and is expected to bring a more attractive user interface. This firmware also repairs and improves the smartphone's performance, and brings latest different features.
International Business Times cited the prerequisites and reminders upon installation of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM update. First thing to keep in mind is that the Phronesis Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM has to be installed on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005) LTE model only; if tried on other devices, it might brick the handsets.
To check the handset model, one needs to go to Settings > About phone > model number, then the user needs to make sure the device is rooted before going forward with the custom ROM installation. Another is that the installation of custom ROM needs clearing of memory in the smartphone so users will have to make sure that they back up all the data by installing Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/ TWRP in the smartphone.
They also have to make sure the PC has USB driver software, or else the device (Galaxy Note 3) will not be recognized by the computer. The device should also have more than 80% battery, or else there is a tendency that the smartphone may be temporarily bricked if the installation process is interrupted midway. Lastly, the installation of custom ROM voids the device's company warranty and they will no longer be liable to provide updates in future. But then, users can restore warranty by flashing the device with stock-ROM.
Furthermore, Neurogadget detailed the step-by-step process on how to install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM. First of all, users have to download the latest Android Lollipop custom ROM by Phronesis zip file for the Galaxy Note 3 and Google Apps zip file on their computer. Next, they will have to connect the Galaxy Note 3 to their PC by using an USB cable. Once the device is connected to their computer, they need to copy the two zip files on the microSD card that's attached to your Galaxy Note 3.
After they have copied the files to the microSD card, disconnect the Galaxy Note 3 from the computer. Shut down the Galaxy Note 3 and boot it into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Power+Volume down+Home buttons. Once the device has booted into recovery mode, select wipe cache partition and make sure that users have cleared everything from the cache memory.
Now they have to return to the main recovery screen, they should select install zip from SDcard and choose the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM by Phronesis zip file. Once this file is installed on the owner's Galaxy Note 3, they will need to install the Google Apps zip file using the same procedure. When the second zip file is installed, they will go once again to the main recovery screen and choose reboot system now.
Phronesis' Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update via custom ROM as a whole, will surely provide better user performance to the unit. However, it should only be tried by those Samsung Galaxy Note 3 users who have knowledge on upgrade installation.
