It was previously reported that the HTC One M7 is not eligible for the Android 6.0 since HTC has stopped its update support for the handset. But the users of One M7 can now rejoice as they can experience the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update using the CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM.
According to Neurogadget, the HTC One M7 device has already completed its two year cycle that is why the Taiwanese tech has stopped providing the updated for the handset. The last upgrade that the One M7 has received was the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop way back February 2015. Fortunately, experts made it possible for the device to experience Google's latest OS, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the use of CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM.
International Business Times, stated the prerequisites or the things to remember before upgrading the HTC One M7 into the Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM. The users should make sure that their handset is HTC One (M7) GSM, AT&T, T-Mobile (m7_u, m7_ul, m7_att, m7_tmo) models only because if they tried the custom ROM on other devices, it might get bricked. They should also know that the installation of the CyanogenMod 13 ROM on their handsets will void its warranty but they can restore it by flashing the device with stock-ROM. Users will also have to make sure that the device is rooted before going ahead with custom ROM installation.
Another is the installation of custom ROM will require clearing memory in the phone, so they have to make sure to back-up all of the data by installing Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/ TWRP in the smartphone. They also have to make sure USB driver is installed in the PC or else the device (HTC One M7) will not be recognized by the computer. Lastly, the phone should have more than 80% battery as there's a chance that the device might be temporarily bricked if the installation process is interrupted midway.
As for the step-by-step procedure on updating the HTC One M7, the first thing to do is to copy the downloaded zips and paste them to the internal storage of the mobile device. Next is to turn off the handset and perform the reboot procedure into recovery mode. Upon entering on the recovery mode, users must create an android backup of all their information. From recovery mode menu, choose Backup, then with a swipe gesture one must validate the procedure.
Wipe the data after by clicking on wipe, then advanced wipe, Dalvik Cache, System and next Data and Cache. Next perform a swipe movement on Swipe to wipe option. After that, the One M7 owner needs to go back to the recovery menu and click Install, go to where the CM13 ROM file has been saved and click on it then do a swipe on the Swipe option once more to validate the flash option. So once that the user is done with the ROM installation, they have to do the same with flash Gapps. Finally, choose Reboot system to restart the smartphone and it's done.
Many users are already excited to try CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM so their HTC One M7 handsets can be updated into Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But then, the installation using this ROM is at the users own risk. They have to be very cautious upon the installation to avoid their handsets from getting bricked.
