"The X-Files" revival is happening and it's set to premiere on FOX January 24 next year in a 6-episode miniseries. Gillian Anderson will be reprising her role as Agent Dana Scully with her partner Fox Mulder played by David Duchovny.
Gillian Anderson teases the new instalment in a promo with a very fast montage of vague images. She showed what looks to be a downed UFO, an alien corpse, a baby, a huge fire, Agent Scully on the phone, and a phone showing that "William" is calling.
Critics tease that X-'Philes' won't be disappointed with the new instalment as TVline provides some intel on the premiere. For "X-Files" newbies, the series will provide an excellent briefing on the original 9 seasons. As promised to fans, the credits and theme music are retained. Also in a previous report, it was revealed that Mulder and Scully will no longer be romantically involved at the start of the revival. Though, viewers can still hope that the series won't be the only thing to be "revived." In addition, Mulder and Scully's son, William, won't be forgotten. TVLine also quips that Mulder hasn't changed at all, while a subtle callback to the pilot episode of the series can also be expected. And lastly, there will be explosions.
"X-Files" creator, Chris Carter, says via ScreenRant that the revival will primarily consist of standalone episodes which will focus less on the show's mythological elements. However, alien technology will definitely be present but viewers just have to stay tuned whether or not aliens will be involved any further.
After the critical and financial failure of the last "X-Files: I want to Believe," the promo materials for the revival have been great so far. ScreenRant also adds that the phrase which appears in the promotional posters, "I still want to believe," suggests that nothing has changed. Meanwhile, the "X-Files" revival will also feature new roles to be played by Joel McHale and Lauren Ambrose.
