Sony may not have approved an update for the Sony Xperia Z, but that doesn't mean that the handset won't get a custom ROM from generous XDA developers.
An Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM has been released for the Xperia Z by a group of developers, named as Android 5.1.1 PureX, says Latin Post. The custom firmware based on Lollipop is much like any other Xperia firmware with some additional perks, such as being fully rooted and debloated. The custom ROM also comes with advanced power menu and call recording option, and Clear Stereo, Clear Phase and XLoud are still present with the firmware.
Team Android provides download links and instructions to get the custom firmware into a Sony Xperia Z. Since the custom ROM is based on stock official firmware, users of the Xperia Z who opt to install the custom ROM can expect stability, speed and smooth performance. However, like any custom ROM, this one will make any Sony warranty null and void.
To get the custom ROM update, users are to get the right kind of USB drivers for Sony Xperia 7. After which, all data must be backed up manually through Sony PC Companion. Users can then download the Android 5.1.1 PureX ROM, copy and paste the files into an SD card via USB drivers, and switch to recovery mode. The phone must then be switched to recovery mode and then the ROM can be installed.
The Sony Xperia Z sports a 5 inch screen display covered in shatter proof glass. The display has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, with a density of 441 pixels per inch, says GSM Arena. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro and Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory.
The Xperia Z was launched back in February 2013, equipped with Android Jellybean coming out of the box.
