Although it is currently on hold, actor Michael Biehn is confident that Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 will still happen. 'The Victim' actor also revealed new plot details for the sequel and teased the return of a fan-favorite character.
With Blomkamp's project placed on hold, it is uncertain if and when the project will hit theaters. However, as reported by GameSpot, Michael Biehn believes that the sequel will still happen sometime in the future.
According to Biehn, it was initially planned for Alien 5 to disregard the last two films and bring back Cpl. Hicks, and Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley for another round of action. Moreover, Biehn also revealed that the film will center on a much older Newt who will be 27 years old at the time.
"They're planning on bringing me and [Aliens character] Newt back, and at this point Newt will be around 27-years-old. I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it's really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt.", Biehn said.
"It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that's what the bottom line is now: money.", he added. As reported by Comic Book Resources, Newt was the sole survivor of LV-426 who was just a little girl at the time. However, the character fell on a bad fate when she was eventually killed off in Alien 3.
After months of speculation given its comparatively slow progress compared to Ridley Scott's Prometheus 2, the confirmation of the film's status was released by Blomkamp via twitter. "alien is kinda holding/ pending prometheus 2. So I shall be working on other things... as much as I love the xeno- and Lt ripley", Blomkamp tweeted in late October as reported by Deadline.
Before it was put on hold, Alien 5 was reported to be up for release some time in 2017. However, with its uncertain status, it remains unclear if or when Blomkamp's project will move forward. More details about the project will be reported when they are released.
