Hugh Jackman's last outing as the seemingly immortal mutant in Wolverine 3 is currently in the works. Meanwhile, new plot theories surrounding the film suggest possible introduction of several characters into the franchise.
After playing as the badass seemingly immortal mutant for more than a decade and a half, Jackman is ready to step away from the mutant world. However as reported by Yibada, speculations are rampant that two new characters could debut in his last big screen outing.
Although it is currently unknown how they will affect the X-Men universe, it is widely speculated that Wolverine's female clone, X-23 might have her big screen debut along with the dangerous Russian mutant Omega Red.
Official plot details are also currently under wraps, but as reported by Blastr, Jackman revealed that he wants to present the quasi-father and son relationship between Logan and Professor X in next installment.
"I think it's a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before. So we have some really, really cool ideas...",he said.
Furthermore, Jackman also confirmed that he has begun preparing himself mentally and physically for the character, and that they are aiming to begin filming in 2016.
The upcoming film is expected to play a significant role in the X-Men universe which has featured younger version of the mutants with the concepts of time travelling and alternate universes added into the mix. Thus as reported by Screen Rant, when asked about who he believe would be fit for the role after he steps away from the franchise, Jackman revealed that he considers 'Mad Max: Fury Road' actor Tom Hardy as a great candidate for a younger Wolverine.
Wolverine 3 is set to be directed by James Mangold and written by David James Kelly. It is currently slated to hit theaters on March 3, 2017. More details about the film are expected to be revealed when filming begins.
