Car chases and action are set for the upcoming Furious 8 and Vin Diesel recently hinted on adding 'Woman in Gold' actress Helen Mirren in the cast. Moreover, several spin-offs about the characters are also possible.
The wheels are turning and are set to run at insane speed for three more times as the Fast and Furious franchise was confirmed to have 3 more films before officially closing down, and as reported by iSchool Guide, the next film might introduce a new character.
Helen Mirren, who previously expressed her interest in joining Furious 8, might actually be casted according to Diesel. Although her role is currently unknown, Diesel confirmed that Mirren is currently on top of their list. "They've gotta get in line behind Helen Mirren.", Diesel said. "She is on the list. Be careful what you wish for, Helen", he added.
Diesel is set to reprise his role as Dominic Toretto along with Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Tyrese Gibson as Roman, Ludacris as Tej, as well as Jason Statham as the villain Deckard Shaw.
Moreover, as reported by Yibada, talks are currently on going for potential spin-offs for several characters in the franchise. While the projects have not been officially confirmed yet, characters who are heavily speculated as Johnson's Diplomatic Security Service Agent Luke Hobbs, as well as the great baddies Owen and Deckard Shaw.
Plot details for the sequel are currently under wraps although Rodriguez previously revealed that the franchise will return to its core, which is car racing, as wished by her late co-star Paul Walker. As reported by Movie News Guide, Rodriguez said that the upcoming sequel will serve as a tribute to Walker.
F. Gary Gray was recently confirmed to helm Furious 8, which is expected to shoot in New York for the first time in the series. It will be produced by Diesel and Neal H. Moritz. It is currently slated to hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
