Samsung Galaxy S5 owners will be pleased to know that a custom ROM based on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update has been released and is now available for download.
The 2014 flagship device's new custom ROM is available for Galaxy S5, bearing the model number SM-G900F, and comes via the Revolution S5 custom ROM. The custom ROM can be downloaded in Latin Post. Though this custom ROM is an unofficial firmware compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S5, users can expect the performance to be smooth and fast.
It is still recommended however, to approach the installation with extreme caution, and users must make sure that their phones carry the model that the custom ROM runs on by checking Settings > About Phone > Model Number. Just like any other custom ROM, this one will nullify any warranty that the handset may carry.
Another requirement to the custom firmware is a recovery tool to make back ups to data that Samsung Galaxy S5 owners don't want to lose. ClockWorkMod Recovery or CWM with TWRP are two options that Galaxy S5 users can opt for.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been confirmed to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update come April 2016, according to Android Community. But for those who would want to try the latest Lollipop version, they can go through the custom ROM first.
The Galaxy S5 was introduced into markets in April 2014, and came out of the box with Android OS, v4.4.2 KitKat, and is upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop, says GSM Arena.
The handset sports a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors, and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and 432 ppi pixel density. It runs on a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset with Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU. RAM is at 2GB and internal memory comes in 16 GB or 32 GB, expandable to 128 GB via microSD card.
