'The Dark Tower' may feature Matthew McConaughey as the main antagonist the Man in Black. He had been offered the role for main villain as well as hero although it was reported that he may take on the former. Author Stephen King revealed that he wasn't done with the fantasy series and may possible write more books.
According to Deadline, Matthew McConaughey is in negotiations to play either the main protagonist or leading antagonist in the upcoming live-action adaptations of the popular fantasy novels authored by Stephen King. Sony/MRC has given the 46-year old Hollywood heartthrob the choice to play Roland Deschain, the gunslinger, or his nemesis the villainous Man in Black. It is possible that he may choose the latter although the deal is far from sealed at the present.
McConaughey was reportedly given a copy of the script and has yet to decide on which role, should he accept the offer for 'The Dark Tower'. The Man in Black, also called Padick or Randall Flagg, is a recurring character in King's multiverse of novels specifically in 'The Eyes of the Dragon' and 'The Stand'. He is known as a demonic sorcerer hunted down by the gunslinger.
Another article by Digital Trends reported that Academy Award-nominee Nikolaj Arcel is set to direct the upcoming fantasy-adventure film. The Danish screenwriter and filmmaker is best known for his work on 2012's 'A Royal Affair', which two awards at the Berlin International Film Festival as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. He also directed 2010's 'Truth About Men', 2007's 'Island of Lost Souls' and 2004's 'King's Game'.
Arcel will direct the film's script rewritten for the big-screen by award-winning scribe Akiva Goldsman of 'Beautiful Mind' and Jeff Pinkner of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'. The screenplay will be adapted from the story and characters of King's series of fantasy books revolving around the adventures of Roland Deschain as he pursues the mysterious Dark Tower.
According to Mental Floss, the bestselling author hinted at the possibility of future books in the 'Dark Tower' series. King admitted that he was never done with the series since he still had to confront one missing element. He said, "...a big battle at a place called Jericho Hill. And that whole thing should be written, and I've thought about it several times, and I don't know how to get into it."
'The Dark Tower' is an upcoming science-fiction horror and fantasy film directed by Nikolaj Arcel. It is scheduled to be released on January 13, 2017. The film is adapted from Stephen King's series of bestselling fantasy books that meld magic and Western elements together.
