New villains will unfold in the third installment of Penny Dreadful. The dark couple Dorian Gray and Lily Frankenstein are set to cause havoc in season 3. Meanwhile, Patti LuPone returns as an American psychiatrist helping out Vanessa Ives.
According to Master Herald, during the Season 2 finale of the British-American horror TV series on Showtime, Dorian Gray, played by Reeve Carney, and Lily Frankenstein, played by Billie Piper, have stated that they are the new breed of immortals out to rule the world. It was Victor Frankenstein, played by Harry Treadaway, who first saw the evil in Lily and now she is going to unveil such evil in the world with Dorian Gray. Although there is no official confirmation yet, it seems the couple's statement of ruling the world back in season 2 finale is a sign that they are indeed season 3's main villains.
With the new villains at hand, it is likely that situations in the upcoming Season 3 would warrant the collaboration of the three protagonists namely Vanessa Ives, played by Eva Green, Ethan Chandler, played by Josh Hartnett and Sir Malcolm Murray, played by Timothy Dalton. But whether that would happen at the onset of the season or towards the latter part remains to be seen, according to the same post.
Meanwhile, Tony award winner Patti LuPone will come back as a series regular. As previously reported, LuPone previously guest starred in the series' second season as the Cut-Wife and is now a series regular as an American therapist who treats Vanessa with an unconventional new approach.
Apparently, Patti LuPone has done remarkably well as the cut-wife that the producers and showrunner have given her a chance to return on season 3, according to another post from Master Herald. Filming for the series has already started and Showtime confirmed that the third installment of Penny Dreadful shall have nine episodes, one short of its 10-episode run during the last season but one episode more during its premiere season.
Penny Dreadful Season 3 will hit the small screens in 2016.
