Now on its ninth season, The Big Bang Theory is trying to stretch the breakup period of Amy and Sheldon to its maximum level. In the past weeks, we have seen the ex-couple dance through the process of trying to accept their single statuses while also being able to move forward with the support of their friends.
Nine weeks down and it seems that the CBS comedy is still trying to extract some comedic juices out of this arc. It’s still unknown as to whether they plan to give this a resolution, but so far, Sheldon and Amy’s storyline has been the highlight of every episode.
The episode where The Big Bang Theory paid tribute to Sheldon’s childhood idol, Leonard Nimoy, etched a significant event for Shamy fans. Per IGN, “The Spock Resonance” finally revealed Sheldon’s true feelings for Amy by going the extra mile of planning to propose to her. Sheldon’s romantic gesture backfired, leaving him and his fans heartbroken and disappointed.
Then, Big Bang introduced Sheldon’s rival in the form of Dave in “The Mystery Date Observation”. However, while on a date with Amy, viewers found out that Dave was actually a fanboy of Sheldon. The unexpected twist triggered some good laughs during the half-hour.
When Amy decides to call it a night, Dave even requested her to set him a meeting with the “great” Sheldon Cooper. Entertainment Weekly shared the details on a report.
Examining how the events played out for Amy, it’s safe to assume that her date with Dave only made her miss Sheldon more.
And that’s exactly what happened on the show’s most recent outing: “The Platonic Permutation”. The Thanksgiving-themed episode allowed for Shamy to celebrate the occasion together as friends. But things turn sour for Amy when Sheldon rejected her idea to get back together.

The efforts of The Big Bang’s writers to capitalize on Shamy’s experimental period are so far working to their advantage. What's more, they’ve even locked in the promise that viewers will finally see them have “coitus” in an episode slated to air in December. Hopefully, The Big Bang Theory can still elevate their comedic edge no matter how long they've been on air.
