Samsung Ativ Book 9 Pro a Threat to the MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro may finally be seeing a worthy opponent in the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Pro after many years of dominating the market of laptops.

The Ativ Book 9 Pro, being dubbed by CNET as the 15-inch MacBook Pro competitor, packs a powerful processor, discrete Nvidia GeForce graphics and a gorgeous 15.6-inch, 3,840×2,160-pixel-resolution 4K touchscreen display, says Inquisitr.

The Ativ Book 9 Pro is actually Samsung's first 4K definition laptop, and the company that is best known for handsets have actually hit the market with good reviews. Although, the Samsung laptop is far from perfect as some users have said that the colors of the Ativ Book 9 seems a bit washed out, says some reviews in Best Buy.

Another challenge that the 4K super laptop faces is the effect of the ultra-HD resolution to the laptop's battery life, although, that can be completely understandable for a laptop with the Samsung Ativ Book 9 Pro's graphics capacity.

The laptop includes a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor running at 2.6GHz, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics card, four speakers, and a 4K HDMI out port in the ATIV Book 9 Pro, and is retailed for $1,599.

Coming along with the Ativ Book 9 Pro is a cheaper option called, ATIV Book 9 Spin, which is cheaper by $200 and ditches the 4K screen and sports a smaller 13.3-inch display. However, the Spin still has a QHD+ resolution and has a 360 degree hinge that allows the laptop to bend to a tablet, "tent" mode, or just plain old laptop, according to Gizmodo.

It is likely that Apple will counter with a 2016 version of the MacBook Pro also sporting a 4K resolution display, a 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor and a discreet GPU. With only less than two weeks worth of exposure in the market, there are no sales figures yet for the Samsung Ativ Book 9 Pro, but Samsung is hopeful that the laptop could challenge other players in the market.
