‘Elite Dangerous: Horizons’ Updates: Europa Surface Hinted Through Preview

By

Frontier Developments' Elite Dangerous: Horizons is the upcoming expansion of the Elite Dangerous series. Horizons is scheduled to be released in the holidays of 2015 but will continue to be developed and updated in 2016. Its recent preview revealed an exciting major feature and the details about the moon Europa.

One of the expansion's features is its planet fall, wherein a player experiences landing simulation towards the moon Europa. The preview reveals a player's point of view inside a starship orbiting around Europa just before it docks at the Haberlandt Survey on its surface. The video further reveals footages of planetary landings and orbital cruises around the Europa moon. Frontier Developments' boss, David Braben, as reported by VG 24/7, appears to have no qualms in showing off the in-progress footage. According to Braben; "sub-surface scattering is not working on the ice" yet and few other improvements have to be made before the game is completely ready.

In addition, Braben uploaded a shorter video which showed Europa from orbit while a ship can be seen transferring from the super cruise into the orbital cruise. PC Gamer further reports that the game's beta was meant to launch on November 24. However, the date was pushed to make way for last minute setbacks. The game was said to release on 2016, while a definite date is yet to be confirmed.

With the expansion, players would be able to drive the all new Surface Recon Vehicle wherein players can discover signals, remnants of crashed ships, and mineral deposits which expands the gameplay range. Engadget reviews that the game itself is an open world space exploration just like No Man's Sky. The galaxy featured in the game is based on the Milky Way, presenting a 1:1 scale with billions of stars to explore. Moreover, the game is ushered in HTC Vive and Steam VR support.

Horizons, the expansion of Frontier Developments' space simulation Elite Dangerous is scheduled to kick off in the Holidays of 2015 with a limited quality. However, the developers will continue working on improvements until its full release on 2016.
