‘James Bond 25’ News: Daniel Craig wants to move on; ‘Spectre’ setting up for follow-up?

By

'James Bond 25' is a planned addition to the ever-growing spy-action cinematic series first introduced in 1962. Daniel Craig, who plays the titular MI6 agent, said that no sequel is currently in the works and that he may not return for a fifth time. His latest film 'Spectre' is speculated to set-up the events for a sequel.

According to Gossip Extra, Daniel Craig revealed that despite speculations of a new James Bond film currently in the works, he does not know anything about it. During an interview with Paul and Young Ron Morning Show, he was asked whether the film studio has already begun with production for a 25th installment in the spy series. He said, "Everybody involved with this film (Spectre) is just trying to take a holiday and take a break... Well, I know for a fact that they're not."

Meanwhile, Craig spoke with Time Out on another interview and he was asked about plans for his return to future films in the series. According to Bustle, he replied rather bluntly, "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists... No, not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on." He added that should he need to do another James Bond film, he will only be doing it for the money.

In 2005, the 47-year old English actor was contracted by Eon Productions to play the title role. He won the Empire Award for Best Actor as well as got nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as James Bond on 2006's 'Casino Royale'. He went on to star in 2008's 'Quantum of Solace', 2012's 'Skyfall' and finally the recent 2015 release 'Spectre' where he also served as producer.

According to Movie Viral, his latest film 'Spectre' was left with an open-ended ending where Christopher Waltz's villain continues to live and perhaps torment the lead protagonist for another day. It was speculated that the latest film may be setting up the events for 'Bond 25' despite director Sam Mendes and Craig allegedly calling it quits. It was also suggested that should Craig ultimately exit the series for good, a reboot may be considered - one with a brand new male lead as well as a different tone.

'James Bond 25' is a planned sequel based on the fictional MI6 agent of the same name. Its predecessor, 'Spectre', features Daniel Craig in his fourth appearance as the titular agent. The latest film earned $751 million in the box office and received mixed reviews from critics.
