Lady Gaga - singer, songwriter, and actress, is now Billboard's Woman of the Year for 2015.
"Billboard's Woman of the Year has always represented the finest in music, and the anointing of a key influential figure who drove the conversation for that year. No one embodies that more than Lady Gaga in 2015," co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media's entertainment group Janice Min said, as Billboard reports.
According to Min, Gaga has been a force this year, from her awesome performance at the Oscars, to her co-headlining tour for Cheek to Cheek, to her charitable outreach and foundation promoting youth well being and empowerment, to her new role as a TV star. Gaga is the woman who dominates the ever-evolving popular culture tastes this year.
The Mother Monster showed her gratitude on Twitter, saying, "I can't believe @billboard named me Woman of the year thank you so much. I am so so so so grateful. My gosh good morning!"
In an interview with Billboard, as reported by Harper's Bazaar, Gaga did what she wanted.
"It speaks volumes to me that I'm being recognized as Woman of the Year in 2015. This is the year I did what I wanted instead of trying to keep up with what I thought everyone else wanted from me."
Just this year, she got engaged to actor Taylor Kinney, starred in hit TV series American Horror Story: Hotel, and is currently producing her fifth studio album. Gaga also received a a lot of awards this year, including the Contemporary Icon Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Young Artist Award at the National Art Awards.
Gaga will receive the award live on television in the Women in Music event as Billboard partnered up with Lifetime. This will mark as the first televised Women in Music. Don Mischer Productions, who has done multiple Billboard Music Awards, Oscars, Emmys (including the last two) and Super Bowl halftime shows, will produce the televised event.
Women in Music will be held on December 11 at Cipriani Midtown in New York and aired December 18 on Lifetime.
