'Assassin's Creed' is an action-adventure film based on Capcom's popular video games of the same name. Lead actress Marion Cotillard shared her experiences on working with both director Justin Kurzel and co-star Michael Fassbender on the new film as well as their latest project 'Macbeth'.
During an interview with Collider, Academy Award-winning French actress Marion Cotillard talked about reteaming with Oscar-nominee Michael Fassbender and director Justin Kurzel for the live-action adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game of the same name. The three worked together on the 2015 Shakespearean adaptation 'Macbeth'.
Cotillard admired Kurzel for his risk-taking attitude and dedication for his projects. She gushed, "As soon as I talked to him on the phone, I knew that he was a very special person and a very talented director committed and dedicated on his work with a vital need to tell stories and direct." She also talked about getting the chance to work with Fassbender for the first time on 'Macbeth' saying that they rehearsed together for a month and a half and that it was an "interesting and beautiful" process of seeing her co-star exploring his character.
The actress also spoke with Screen Crush and reiterated her appreciation for Kurzel's direction. She said, "Again, Justin is such an amazing director and the love he has for human beings and the way he wants to explore the human soul is the same for an independent movie or a blockbuster movie. In an adaptation of such a big video game, he has the same way of working in finding [and] exploring people's souls and hearts." She also admitted that she couldn't divulge anything more about her character in the film.
Meanwhile, Fassbender spoke with The Wall Street Journal and revealed that he didn't know much about the original 'Assassin's Creed' series. He did admit that he was fascinated with the concept behind the game about carrying one's ancestors and their knowledge within strands of DNA.
The multi-award winning German-Irish actor is set to play the lead role of both Callum Lynch and his 15th century ancestor Aguilar. His character was specifically created for the film adaptation and differs from those in the original video game series.
'Assassin's Creed' is an upcoming action-adventure film based on the popular Capcom video game of the same name. It is directed by Justin Kurzel, the award-winning director of the 2011 film 'Snowtown' as well as 2015's 'Macbeth'. The film will be set in the same universe as the original games but features an specially created original story that adds to the mythology behind the series.
