‘Die Hard 6’ Plot to Focus on Bruce Willis' John McClane Origins? Underworld's Len Wiseman Returns as Director

'Die Hard 6' is a planned addition to the action-franchise that stars Bruce Willis as the main protagonist John McClane. Indie producer and writer Eric D. Wilkinson pitched his version of the new film in an open letter to Willis and other executives in charge for the film. Mark Millar joined in with his ideas as well.

According to /Film, Len Wiseman has been brought back to direct the planned sequel in the long-running action franchise starring Bruce Willis in the lead role as John McClane. Indie producer and writer Eric D. Wilkinson pitched an unorthodox plot line centering on McClane unjustly convicted as a murderer and would explore the character's backstory in the younger days.

Wilkinson is a self-proclaimed Die Hard fan. He took out a full-page open letter in the November 20 issue of The Hollywood Reporter addressed to Willis and "the makers of Die Hard". He admitted to Gawker that his pitch's success had a slim chance of being carried out.

He said, "Would I love the opportunity to get in a room with those guys and really talk in detail about my idea? Absolutely. But realistically, this is going to trend for a couple days, and then I'm going to back to doing what it is that I do."

The producer worked on independent films such as 2007s's 'The Man From Earth', 2013's 'Sparks' and 'Mischief Night'. He added that his pitch is not meant to be a "wacky get-rich scheme" and that he only intended to publicize his concept to people involved in the project.

Writer Mark Millar has also joined in Wilkinson's idea and added to it with his own concept. Millar wrote, "I think the genius of Die-Hard is staying simple and getting him into that situation as quickly as possible. It's a third act spread over THREE acts...This is a movie I just want to see."

Millar is a comic book writer known for his work on DC Comics, Icon Comics and Marvel Comics titles such as 'Marvel Knights Spider-Man', 'Ultimate Fantastic Four', 'Civil War', 'Kick-Ass', 'Wanted' and 'The Secret Service'. He was recognized by Queen Elizabeth II as a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services in film and literature as well as nominations for four Eisner Awards and two Eagle Awards.

Meanwhile, Willis himself responded to Wilkinson's pitch when a representative from THR asked him if he was aware of this proposed concept. According to Screen Crush, Willis simply stated, "It seems far away right now... I don't know."

'Die Hard 6' is an upcoming follow-up in the long-running franchise starring Bruce Willis as the lead protagonist John McClane. It will be directed by Len Wiseman and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. It may or may not follow the events of 2013's 'A Good Day To Die Hard'.
