Mark Gatiss talks Sherlock Special happening 1 January 2016 and also debunks rumors of a "Doctor Who" crossover happening in Sherlock Season 4. EP Steven Moffat, on the other hand, said that he will be working on the crossover alone since no one wants to do it.
Co-creator and regular "Doctor Who" writer Mark Gatiss, who also plays Mycroft Holmes in Sherlock series, stated that a crossover between the two franchises is not going to happen.
Gatiss explained, "I'm not being horrible but I just don't see the point... First of all, they are entirely different shows. But I think there'd be so much excitement among certain members of the fan community followed by massive disappointment that it wasnt' the version they had in their heads. And, just personally, I've never been a fan of these kind of mash-ups." as noted by Carter Matt.
In addition, Gatiss also teased the fans about "Sherlock" Christmas special episode entitled, "The Abominable Bride" set to air at BBC1 in the UK January 1st, 2016. Radio Times mentioned that the upcoming plot will involve having to be able to understand the Chinese language to understand.
On the contrary, "Sherlock" executive producer and "Doctor Who" lead scribe Steven Moffat discussed with Entertainment Weekly that he wanted to do the crossover episode. Moffat admitted that he is being pushed back with his idea. He also joked about his fellow collaborators on both shows are boring to work with. Therefore, he will work with the "Doctor Who" crossover alone.
As of now, the official scheduled launch of "Sherlock" Season 4 has not been announced yet. With that being said, the series is set to begin its production next year. Speculations also suggest that the show will be released by late 2016 or early 2017 exclusively on BBC.
"Sherlock" is a British crime drama TV series created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. The show is a modern adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" detective stories.
