PlayStation Messages Standalone App Launched

By

Sony has released a Playstation messaging app that stands separately from any other service, and it's available for both iOS and Android users.

The Playstation messaging app, called 'PlayStation Messages' was released last December 7. The app allows PlayStation Network users to chat with other users in private or group conversations, says AdWeek Social Times. Prior to launching the separate messaging app, the Playstation App came with a messaging feature. However, now that PlayStation Messages is out, the company has removed the messaging feature in the main app.

For users who try access the messaging app in the main Playstation app, the system will prompt the user to download PlayStation Messages. This also started the same day that the separate messages app was released to gamers and users.

Sony's John Koller released a statement claiming that the messaging feature was the most famous add-on to the Playstation App and in order to keep the growing demand, the move was made to create a separate app for messages, says Gamespot. Users will remember that this was the move Facebook made with the messaging feature of the Social network.

According to Playstation's official US blog, the standalone Messages app allows users to chat with their friends individually or as a group. The app displays a user's friends list either alphabetically or according to availability. The app also allows text or voice messages, plus a wide variation of stickers and icons. The stickers feature characters from PS4 games such as 'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End or LittleBigPlanet 3.'

Playstation states further that it has always been their intention to make PS4 a socially connected experience, and how the release of the PlayStation Messages app will "help enhance that connectivity even further."

The PlayStation Messages app is now available on iTunes App Store and Google Play store for both iOS and Android users.
