Meizu Reveals Flyme OS 5 for Older Phone Models

By

Meizu's Flyme OS will be coming soon to MX4, MX4 Pro, as well as the M1 note from the China-based smartphone manufacturer. The Flyme OS is a skin that is placed on top of the Android.

The Flyme OS 5, Meizu's latest OS on top of OS, was released primarily only for the Meizu Pro 5 and the MX5, but GSM Arena reports that it is now coming to older phone models manufactured by the company.

However, The update for the older phones will not be available over-the-air, instead it will have to be downloaded by owners of MX4, MX4 Pro and M1 note from the Meizu website and installed manually.

The update now available is a beta version, and the official and final version of the Flyme OS 5 for the trio of old Meizu smartphone models should be released in time for the Sprint Festival in February, Uber Gizmo adds.

On top of expanding to other phone models, the FlyMe OS 5 international variant is due to arrive soon as well, says Android Headlines. There is no news as to when the non-Chinese variant will be released, but there are unconfirmed reports that it will arrive in the Meizu MX5 and PRO 5 before the end of this month.

Meizu is one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturers to date, releasing a handful of affordable phones with promising specs and features. In the second quarter, the Chinese OEM saw 540% increase in their profit.

The Flyme OS 5 presents a lot of promise as the mobile OS skin promises 11% better battery life than its Flyme 4.5 predecessor, a new multitasking list that follows the card-style of Android, split-screen mode, layout optimisation, notification manager improvements and many more. Flyme OS also adds a toolbox, compass, magnifier and flashlight support.

Meizu tweeted that the Flyme OS 5 brings 300 feature improvements to Meizu smartphones and owners of older phones should be ready to check them out.
