Kristin Cavallari's older brother, Michael, was found dead on Thursday, December 10. After two weeks of searching for the 30-year-old, it was sadly too late.
Kristin issued an official statement to People, expressing her gratitude to those who supported her family the whole time and asked for some privacy. Her whole message goes:
"We want to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this very difficult time. We have just been informed by the authorities my brother's body has been found. This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all. We kindly ask everyone please respect our privacy during our time of grieving."
The Grand County Sheriff's Office gave the details on the body's discovery to which E! news has released.
"At approximately 10:30 a.m. search crews located remains believed to be that of Michael Cavallari. At this time, the body is being transported to the Office of the Utah Medical Examiner for positive identification and to determine the cause of death. The search crews were searching the Salt Wash area, near exit 175 on I-70 in Grand County. The terrain where the body was located is a steep and very rocky area."
Utah police had started the search for the 28-year-old actress' brother since Nov. 27 after his 2014 Honda Civic was found abandoned five miles south of exit 175 on I-70, as stated by the Grand County Sheriff's Office.
In a security footage taken from a convenience store on the area where the car was found, police identified that Michael had been the one driving the vehicle approximately the same time it was abandoned.
As the body is transported to the Office of the Utah Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death, a source close to the family disclosed to People that Michael had always been a "troubled kid."
It was also learned that a few days prior to his disappearance, Michael was arrested on Nov. 23 for reportedly making criminal threats but was then released on Nov. 25.
While it is hard to accept the death of a loved one, Kristin dedicated a heartfelt Instagram post to her brother "Mikey."
