Sony Xperia Z Ultra has been confirmed disqualified to get the grandest Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade, as Sony Mobile revealed a list of its handsets for the new build and excluded this device. Nevertheless, many are still hopeful that the device will still see a glimpse of the upgrade, a custom ROM based on Marshmallow at least.
Sony will not be including the Xperia Z Ultra device in the official roll out of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow build. This is according to the list that the Japanese tech giant has posted recently on its support page for software. This shortlist outlined Sony's smartphones and tablets who are confirmed for the upgrade.
Sony has already promised to work hard to take along major Android software update to as many of its devices as possible and as quickly as it can.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow meanwhile could possibly be available to the device through a custom ROM. A custom ROM is an unofficial version of a software crafted by independent developers. It poses threats of device malfunction if not installed right, the reason why devs always remind device owners to download the software at their own risk.
By far, there has not been any unofficial Marshmallow software released for Xperia Z Ultra. Nevertheless, the same ROM made available to Xperia Z1 might also be used for the device.
Alongside Xperia Z Ultra, excluded from the list as well are Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact. These devices were launched in 2013 and are currently running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software. Lucky devices to receive the upgrade are as follows:
1. Xperia Z5
2. Xperia Z5 Compact
3. Xperia Z5 Premium
4. Xperia Z4 Tablet
5. Xperia Z3+
6. Xperia Z3
7. Xperia Z3 Compact
8. Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
9. Xperia Z2
10. Xperia Z2 Tablet
11. Xperia M5
12. Xperia C5 Ultra
13. Xperia M4 Aqua
14. Xperia C4
Android 6.0 Marshmallow will offer key features and enhancements for app permissions, fingerprint support, Android Pay, Doze and App Drawer.
