Xiaomi has rocked the technology industry by introducing low-cost yet effective devices into the worldwide market of smartphones, tablets and other various gadgets. In 2016, the China-based company looks to expand that influence further by introducing laptops.
Having ventured into smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, fitness trackers, and all sorts of smart gadgets, the manufacturer is making plans to introduce the Xiaomi Notebook by second quarter of next year, says WCCF Tech.
According to a Chinese source, the laptop will sport a display with a size of anywhere between 12.5-inches to 13.3-inches, allowing it to exchange blows with devices such as Microsoft's Surface Book and the Apple's 11-inch Macbook Air.
There are also reports pointing to a bigger 15.6-inch 1080p variant with LED-backlit display for the Xiaomi Notebook. Android Headlines adds that the Xiaomi-manufactured laptop will feature Intel's i7 4th generation processor and will carry 8 GB of RAM.
Technology News Extra further adds that also included in the laptop specs are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M Graphics Chip and an open-source Linux OS, that is available for a free license thus helping save a lot on expenses. All of this will come for a price of $500 or 2,999 Yuan for the smaller model, which is a whole lot cheaper than the Macbook Air's $1,000 (5,999 Yuan) price tag.
Taiwan's Industrial chain manufacturer has given hints that the Xiaomi-manufactured notebook will start production anytime in April 2016. Xiaomi currently holds the second spot as the largest phone producer in China, trailing behind Huawei, not bad considering that the company was founded only in 2010. Worldwide, Xiaomi is number four as the largest phone manufacturer and is currently worth around $12 billion.
In other news, the company is scheduled to make an official announcement on their Mi 5 flagship next month. Rumours are pointing at January 21st as the official announcement date.
