Square Enix has announced recently that they will be releasing Dragon Quest 11 in Japan next year. They are also set to host the 30th anniversay event of Dragon Quest by January 2016.
Dragon Quest's 30th Anniversary Project Presentation will be held on January 13, at 14:00 JST (1/12 at 9:00 p.m. PT/ 12:00 a.m. ET). Streaming site NicoNico will be livestreaming the said event, reported My Nintendo News.
The presentation will bring the latest details on Dragon Quest titles set to be released in 2016. Dragon Quest's supervising producer, Ryutaro Ichimura, and feature series creator Yuji Horii, will be attending the event, reported Gematsu. So far, these are the announced titles and release dates set to be released for next year:
- Dragon Quest Builders (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita) - January 28
- Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 (3DS) - March 244
- Dragon Quest Heroes II (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita) - Spring 2016
- Dragon Quest 11 (PlayStation 4, 3DS) - Aiming for 2016
According to Square Enix, Dragon Quest 11 may be actually released not later than May 2017, reported Powerup Gaming. Unfortunately, Square Enix refuses to bring Dragon Quest 11 in Europe and North America. The company stated that they might only change their mind if sales of their other games are high enough in the said regions.
Dragon Quest is one of the most popular JRPG series in Japan. Because of its popularity in their home country, Square Enix doesn't have any plans of bringing the series to western countries, and is currently settling with the game's success in the east.
What the gamers can do at the moment is hope that Square Enix's games will have the support it needs financially, and that they will eventually have a change of heart. Hopefully, there will be more news updates to be revealed soon regarding the release of Dragon Quest 11.
