Pokemon ORAS and XY Update: Fire/Water Type Volcanion Finally Appears

By

For two years, fans awaited the arrival of the very first Fire/Water type Pokemon, and the surprise announcement earlier today, on December 14, 2015, was met with quite a lot of fanfare as a result.

Earlier today, a video on the Official Pokemon YouTube Channel caused a stir in the Pokemon fanbase as Volcanion's reveal video as finally posted. Volcanion is a unique Pokemon with the contradictory Fire/Water typing, and has a very heavy steam-based motif - using steam-themed moves and is even called "the Steam Pokemon" in its introductory video. The description found in Volcanion's dedicated webpage outright states that the steam pressure generated by the Pokemon is strong enough to "blow away an entire mountain, gouging out the earth and changing the shape of the land." It's not yet known if Volcanion is also a Legendary Pokemon, only that he will appear in the 2016 movie and will be available through an event. Unfortunately, there is still no news as to when players will be able to avail of this unusual Pokemon. There have been no announcements as to when Volcanion will be circulated, or what kind of event it would be.

Earlier this month, CoroCoro Magazine (via iDigitalTimes) confirmed Volcanion's appearance in the upcoming third partner title to Pokemon X and Y, Pokemon Z, as well as its appearance in the upcoming Pokemon Z movie set for 2016. And even before that, some dedicated data miners have found Hoopa, Volcanion and Diancie hidden inside Pokemon XY and Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (Pokemon ORAS), with Hoopa and Diancie already revealed earlier on in movie distribution events. Many feel like it's about time that Volcanion made his appearance, while others think that the fact that he was revealed by nosy fans beforehand just spoiled the surprise.

Volcanion will apparently be available for Pokemon XY and ORAS upon release. Earlier this year, Hoopa was released in Japan in an event to commemorate the movie, Hoopa and the Clash of Ages, and was also made available earlier on November in the McDonalds Nintendo Zone in North America to commemorate the release of the Pokemon ORAS Happy Meal toys. The Hoopa event will end on December 23, 2015 and is available for Pokemon XY and ORAS, so any North American fan who hasn't gotten a Hoopa yet can still grab one on their next trip to McDonalds.
