'The Revenant', which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, screened last month for an audience of awards voters at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Everyone says that DiCaprio will finally win an Oscar for Best Actor category.
One of the people who attended the first public screening Twitted: "LEONARDO DICAPRIO WILL WIN THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR HIS PERFORMANCE IN " REVENANT" Saw it tonight!"
Based on a revenge story set in 1800's that was written by novelist Michael Punked, The Revenant is said to be a difficult shoot for DiCaprio. In fact, according to Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio said during the post screening Q&A, "This is the most difficult film that I think any of us have done." The film was shot for six months in an extremely remote locations in Canadian wilderness.
The film revolves around Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), a fur trapper who is determine to take revenge on the people who left him for dead in the unforgiving coldness of nature. The film is made by an Academy Award Winner, Director Alejandro González Iñárritu. The director who swept the Academy last year including Best Picture, Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) - and so expectations are inevitably running high.
DiCaprio's performance is more of a physical performance than a verbal one. Some say it is like Daniel Day Lewis in There Will be Blood while others says it's almost a Clint Eastwood type of performance. The actor was seen mauled by bears in the film, made to survive in extreme cold, and found eating raw liver. Production designer stated John Fisk told Yahoo Movies in an interview that, "He (DiCaprio) had to eat the liver, I think he threw up afterward... he was so into it. It made me really appreciate the extent to which he'll go to make things right."
His two strongest rival this coming Academy are Johnny Depp and former co-star Matt Damon. But neither of the two feels like a front-runner yet. Will Leonardo DiCaprio finally win an Oscars Best Actor in 2016? No one knows. However, early reviews says he is the man to beat.
