iPhone 5 kills Chinese woman

Apple, the producer of the world's most successful smartphone the iPhone 5, launched a thorough investigation following reports that a user was electrocuted while using the bestseller.

Ma Ailun, a 23-year old flight attendant from Xinjian, China, was pronounced dead after making a call using a charging iPhone 5. The woman reportedly answered a call after getting out of the bath.

Apple said that the company was "deeply saddened" by the tragedy. The multi-billion dollar company offered their full cooperation together with the local authorities regarding the matter.

"[I] hope that Apple Inc can give us an explanation. I also hope that all of you will refrain from using your mobile devices while charging," tweeted the victim's sister.

Both the phone and the charger used by Ma were originals, bought during the initial release of the smartphone in China.

Despite the incident, Apple is seeing good business in China. Sales rose to an estimated US$23.8 billion, from US$10 billion two years ago.
