'Transformers 5' will feature the return of Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager. The actor served as replacement to Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky after his exit from the franchise. It was also speculated that the new film may crossover with Channing Tatum's 'G.I. Joe' series.

According to Business Standard, Mark Wahlberg has confirmed that he will be returning to the franchise and reprising his role as single father and inventor Cade Yeager. Wahlberg was asked of his involvement as the new film's main protagonist to which he answered a solid "Yes". The 44-year old actor replaced Shia LaBeouf as the series' main man in the fourth installment 'Transformers: Age of Extinction'.

Wahlberg is set to star in the upcoming comedy film 'Daddy's Home' with Will Ferrell and Linda Cardellini, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. He is also attached to new projects including Peter Berg's 2016 release 'Deepwater Horizon' and 2017's 'The Six Billion Dollar Man'.

Wahlberg has long been a Hollywood staple for action films as he is well-known for his roles in 'The Fighter' where he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and 'The Departed' where he was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor.

The latest film is said to take place in both earth as well as space and will feature Optimus Prime's hunt for the Quintessons. Michael Bay is also speculated to return as director but no official confirmation has been announced as of the present.

Meanwhile, it was also speculated that 'Transformers 5' may crossover with other Hasbro toy line live-action adaptations such as 'G.I. Joe' and 'Micronauts' after it was revealed that Paramount and Hasbro plan to create a shared universe. According to Moviepilot, Paramount chairman Brad Grey broke the news saying, "We're excited to grow our agreement and make even more movies based upon these popular and powerful Hasbro characters and their worlds. These brands are filled with memorable stories and vivid characters, and this universe creates a framework for how they will become interconnected."

'Transformers 5' is an upcoming addition to the live-action adaptation of Hasbro's toys of the same name. It is scheduled to be released some time in 2017 and will be based on a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman. Its predecessor earned $1.1 billion in the box office and became 13th highest grossing film of all time.
