'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' is an upcoming action-adventure film based on the popular '90s television series of the same name. It will feature a brand new cast but will retain the original characters' names. Rapper Becky G revealed that she was unaware she was auditioning for the part of the Yellow Ranger.
According to Moviepilot, the latest cast of the upcoming reboot of the popular series of the same name has been revealed. Although the names of the original names of the characters have been retained, new faces are set to grace the big screen when the film premieres on January 13, 2017.
Naomi Scott of 'The Martian Fame' will play Kimberly Hart the Pink Ranger who was originally portrayed by Amy Jo Johnson in the '90s. RJ Cyler of 'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl' will play Billy Cranston the Blue Ranger in replacement of David Yost while 28-year old Ludi Lyn of 'Monster Hunt' is all set for Zack Taylor the Black Ranger in replacement of Walter Emanuel Jones. Dacre Montgomery of 'A Few Less Men' will play Jason Lee Scott the Red Ranger who was originally portrayed by Austin St. John.
Singer, songwriter and rapper Becky G (born Rebecca Gomez) has also landed the role of Trini Kwan the Yellow Ranger following the footsteps of the late Thuy Trang. The breakout star recently completed a guest arc on Fox's 'Empire' and is getting ready for the release of her debut album.
During an interview with TIME, she admitted that she didn't know she was auditioning for the upcoming 'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' cinematic reboot. She said, "I got some sides sent to me from my agent while I was on tour. I was like, "Girl, I ain't got time for this! I'm on a tour bus, I'm doing shows every single night, I'm tired!" I didn't even read them. I was just like, "Timing right now is not good." She eventually decided to set up her phone, read her lines and have the recording sent to the director.
Becky G admitted that she was a big fan of the television series growing up. She hinted, "What's so cool about being a part of this is we're going to give it a whole new identity. It's going to be so much more creative and so much more relevant to now. I feel like a lot of kids, and even people older, too, are really going to be able to relate to it."
The young artist began her career doing part time voice-over jobs as well as recording for Garage Band, according to Movie News Guide. She went on to join an all-girl group named GLAM and eventually skyrocketed to fame on YouTube.
'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' is an upcoming remake of the popular children's television series of the same name. It is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017. It will be directed by Dean Israelite based on a screenplay by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz.
