The United States and Canada have issued a recall for over 1.2 million rechargeable lights from Good Earth Lighting after one fatality was reported.
In a report by The Associated Press, the recalled integrated light bars include batteries that might overheat and ignite, as stated in a notice from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday, June 6. The dangers of burns and smoke inhalation are high.
Recall Covers Over 1.2 Million Lights
The following model numbers are associated with the recalled products: RE1122, RE1145, RE1362, and RE1250. Authorities and the company are advising anybody with these recalled items to discontinue use right away.
Affected customers may get free light replacement bars from Good Earth Lighting. Those interested in learning more about the recall and how to properly dispose of the recalled lights may check their website.
In a report by CPSC dated between October 2017 and January 2024, about 1.2 million of these lights were sold in various stores in the US, including hardware and home improvement shops like Lowe's, Ace Hardware, and Meijer, as well as internet sites like Amazon and Good Earth Lighting's online store. In Canada, an additional 37,800 were sold.

Consumers Complain Device Overheating
The CPSC reports that one customer died, and another has received medical attention for smoke inhalation after a light in their house last year ignited a fire.
According to the agency, nine more complaints of these devices overheating have been received by Good Earth Lighting. Out of these, six have caused fires and property damage.
Good Earth Lighting said in a statement that it subsequently decided to do a voluntary recall after an investigation into the reported events. In January, the firm already took them off sale to the public as a precaution.
