An air quality board has stated that Tesla needs to address air quality issues at its electric vehicle manufacturing facility in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The company has reportedly accumulated over 100 violations for allegedly releasing toxic emissions into the atmosphere in the past five years.
Tesla Accused of Illegal Air Pollution at Fremont Plant
According to AP News, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is expected to issue a written abatement order later this week following Tuesday's announcement. The board said each of the 112 violations can release a significant amount of illegal air pollution.
The plant is located in Fremont, a city in the East Bay. The agency's independent hearing board has identified the facility's paint shop operations as a particular concern. The board has mandated that Tesla bring in an impartial consultant and create a detailed plan for approval, which they must then carry out in order to address the issue of toxic emissions.
The board has made an announcement regarding Tesla's ongoing recall of the Cybertruck pickup. This marks the fourth time that the vehicle is being recalled in the US.
Tesla's Cybertruck Recall
The purpose of the recall is to address issues related to trim pieces that have a tendency to come loose and front windshield wipers that may fail.
In February, a California judge ruled that the company must pay $1.5 million as part of a settlement in a civil case. The case alleged that the company had mishandled hazardous waste at its car service centers, energy centers, and a factory.
An allegation has been made in San Joaquin County regarding the improper disposal of hazardous waste and the violation of laws pertaining to its storage and management. According to prosecutors, Tesla fully cooperated with the investigation and took steps to enhance compliance with the laws that were brought to its attention.
