Trader Joe’s Recalls Popular Mango Tangerine Candle Over 'Larger-Than-Expected' Flame

Trader Joe's is carrying out a nationwide recall of its Mango Tangerine Scented Candle as it might cause harm to users due to a larger-than-expected flame.

Recall Alert From Trader Joe's Mango Tangerine Scented Candle

The recalled product, which is part of a seasonal collection, may have an unusual burn pattern, according to a retailer's notification on its website on Thursday, July 4.

The company said a bigger-than-expected candle flame is possible, which might extend from the wick to the wax and provide a fire hazard. The 5.7-ounce candles once offered for $3.99 at Trader Joe's locations, are now unavailable on the website.

However, CBS News reported that the recalled candles can be seen for sale on Amazon. One vendor even sells a pair for $22.09. Trader Joe's did not disclose the number of recalled candles or any complaints of injury or flames.

A company representative did not elaborate beyond saying that the recalled candles were American-made. Customers who bought the candles are urged to throw them away or return them to any Trader Joe's store for a refund. Trader Joe's customer service line is available at (626) 599-3817, or submit a form via its website.

Reminder for Trader Joe's Mango Tangerine Scented Candle Users

On a closed Facebook group dedicated to Trader Joe's products, one customer posted about a brand-new Mango Tangerine candle that spontaneously caught fire when they lighted it.

According to the National Park Service, 7,610 candle-related fires occur annually in the United States. These fires cause an average of 81 fatalities and $278 million in property damage.

KTLA5 reported that experts advise candle users not to leave them on while they are away from home or if they are worried about falling asleep. The recommended distance from a flame for anything flammable is 12 inches.

Consider placing a dinner plate under the candle as an additional safety measure. In a blackout, using flashlights rather than candles is likely better.
