Last Week, startup ShopPad which turned Magento and Shopify into tablet friendly formats announced receiving USD500000 in seed funding. Today, Germany based competitor CouchCommerce announced having received some seed funding of its own to mobilize its e-commerce websites.
The seed funding received by CouchCommerce was a seven figure round in Euros. This came from area investors that included Hannover Beteiligungsfonds (HBF) and Venturepreneurs Organisation. The funds received was the company's first official outside investment.
CouchCommerce was established in February 2012. The company's CEO Alexander Ringsdorff has a decade of expertise in the e-commerce industry. He had previously worked with an e-commerce agency and consultancy that focused on the development of Magento.
Ringsdorff said about the startups beginnings, "It started by realizing how quickly iPads had gained traffic share. "But for me, one of the main reasons was that my mother's first computer was an iPad. I realized something is happening here - but online shops were not really designed well for all these post-PC devices."
