A Korean patent filing obtained by the Digits blog of the Wall Street Journal suggested that Samsung had been developing its own take of a wearable glass design. The patent filing showed an image that looked like Google Glass.
"(The) design is of a type (of glasses) with earphones integrated, allowing (users) to take phone calls and listen to music during workouts," the filing read.
When asked for a comment, Samsung refused to provide one regarding the patent filing.
Should Samsung market the wearable glass design into a commercial product, this would be one of the efforts the South Korean company to gain a big chunk in the wearable technology market early. Samsung had already released its smartwatch Galaxy Gear.
Samsung would be releasing its third quarter earnings report this Friday. Industry observers projected that the financial information would indicate a slowing momentum of the company's growth. The Journal estimated that operating profit would be around USD9.3 billion to USD9.7 billion, a decrease from the 47% increase Samsung had recorded in its second quarter.
