In their Teardown of Apple's newly launched iPad Air, repair website iFixit gave the tablet a Repairability Score of 2. This score meant that the iPad Air is difficult to repair. In iFixit's scoring system, a score of 10 is easiest to repair. One of the reasons for the low repairability rating was the large amount of adhesive that made battery removal very challenging. Since the front panel is also attached to the rest of the tablet, the possibility of breaking the glass during the repair process was high, iFixit said.
Another reason for the low repairability rating was the foam sticky tape that glues the tablet's LCD to the front panel. This could also get broken if one would not be careful in disassembling the iPad Air in the event of a repair. Apple launched the iPad Air on November 1.
In its fourth quarter earnings results, Apple posted iPad sales of 14.1 million units. A Forbes report said the technology giant was looking on its newly-released tablets to increase sales for the holidays. The report quoted Apple CEO Tim Cook as saying, "We think it's going to be an iPad Christmas."
