Sony has exceeded its full-year sales goal of selling five million PlayStation 4 (PS4) units by the end 2014's first quarter. By February 8, the Japanese electronics giant had already sold 5.3 million of its newest game consoles, according to TechCrunch.
PS4 was first launched in North America three months back during the Christmas season. On November 29, the gaming console went on sale in Western Europe. Although Soney has yet to launch PS4 in its home country, Japan, the console is still seeing an upward momentum in its sales, the report explained.
Just a few days before this news broke out, Sony posted on Twitter that the PS4 was the top-selling gaming console in the US for January. This means it beat its rival Xbox One of Microsoft, which went on sale on November 22, the report detailed.
The PS4 is scheduled to be launched in Japan on February 22. Sony will hold a live-streamed event at its headquarters in Tokyo. Microsoft, on the other hand, has not yet released a final launch date for its Xbox One in Japan, TechCrunch reported.
