Reeva Steenkamp was killed on February 14, 2013 and was the woman Oscar Pistorius cheated with while he was in a relationship with his girlfriend Samantha Taylor. According to Pretoria High Court, Steenkamp, a model, was killed by Pistorius.
According to the testimony of Pistorius former girlfriend, the athlete had a gun which he would always carry around. After day five of the murder trial, Taylor broke in tears as she said that Pistorius always "carried it around with him". Pistorius ex-sweetheart added that he would keep his gun on his bedside or on the floor, next to his prosthetic legs at night.
Oscar Pistorius' legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old. The South African sprint runner participates in competitions for the able-bodied and for the single below the knee amputees.
Samantha Taylor also recalled an incident where Pistorius was said to have fired his gun along with his friend, Darren Fresco. This was after the two were stopped by a police officer for over speeding last year. Taylor said, "Oscar left his gun on the seat of the car. When the police had a look he saw the gun was on the seat. He said to Oscar the gun couldn't just stay there. Oscar got very angry. He shouted at the policeman that he was not allowed to touch his gun."
