New York Knicks announced Phil Jackson as the team’s new president. The official news was announced last Tuesday at a news conference held in the Madison Square Garden lobby. A giant sign that read, “Welcome Home Phil”, can be seen with No.18 Jackson shirts displayed on the racks of the merchandise store.
Jackson was reported to have signed a five year contract with the Knicks. The contract was reported to have cost USD12 million yearly. Phil said, “This is the best place to play basketball.”
In the early 70s, Jackson was a member of the Knicks’ championship winning teams. However, the Knicks has not won a title since then. The legendary coach returned home to the New York Knicks after winning 11 championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls.
Phil Jackson said that this would be his first time to handle basketball decisions as an executive and coach of a team. Meanwhile, Steve Mills will remain as the general manager of the team.
