Most Americans are not aware about the costs of trips that US President Barack Obama and the First Family are incurring every time they travel. Few weeks ago, First Lady Michelle Obama went to China with her daughters and mother without letting the press cover the trip. On Tuesday, the president is set to embark to Belgium.
According to a report from the Independent Journal Review, Barack Obama now holds the record for the most travelled US President. Obama has already spent 119 days abroad with a total of 31 trips. Air Force One, the official jetliner of the president spends USD228000 per hour every time it flies. Sometimes, the president has to travel with a 900 person entourage, using 45 cars, 2 Air Force One and 3 cargo planes.
When the US President visited South Africa for Mandela’s funeral, the estimated cost for the 13 hour stay in the country was a hefty USD11 million. This included 127 hotel room bookings but excluding flight costs.
The Independent Journal Review reported that the yearly costs to support the expenses of the White House are more than USD1.4 billion.
