On Sunday night, the Academy of Country Music Awards gave George Strait the highest honor. According to Fox, Strait was awarded entertainer of the year, the second time he took home the fan vote in the last 25 years. Strait has taken home the same award back in 1989.
The same award was given to Strait on Country Music Association Awards, five months prior to the ACM awards. Strait won the award over country music’s current top picks including Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift.
The Academy of Country Music Awards named Same Trailer Different Park by Kacey Musgraves album of the year while I Drive Your Truck by Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington,and Jimmy Yeary song of the year. The female vocalist of the year was awarded to Miranda Lambert while Jason Aldean bagged the male vocalist of the year trophy. Justin Moore was recognized as the new artist of the year while Miranda Lambert's Mama's Broken Heart was awarded single record of the year.
The Academy of Country Music awarded The Band Perry as the vocal group of the year while Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, "Highway Don't Care" were hailed music videos of the year. Florida Georgia Line was proclaimed vocal duo of the year and the vocal event of the year was given to Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert for "We Were Us."
