Apple iOS 8 to Support Split-Screen Multitasking for iPad Air 2

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference will commence this June. Similar to previous conferences, people expect the release of the iOS 8. According to previous reports, Apple will focus on two products during the event: the new iOS 8 and the OS X Mavericks. Whereas the iPad Air has been limited to "unitask" device, the new operating system promises to support multitasking for better productivity.

Apple has been preparing for the release of two of its major products: the iOS 8 and iPad Air 2. The upcoming multitasking support feature for the OS was developed using the full-size 9.7-inch iPad model. Apple Insider reported that there are no exact details if the same feature can be accessed using the 7.9-inch iPad Mini.

The support feature allows users to drag videos, text and images across programs or applications easily. The iOS does not support multitasking before. It was limited. Users can only open the standard background functions but eventually they have to focus on one application. It was not until the release of the iOS 4 did the operating system began changing.

The iPhone OS 4.0 platform allowed developers to run specific processes in the background. Nonetheless, the number of applications that can be opened at the same remains limited. The iPad still cannot be considered a multitasking device.

It was the Microsoft Surface 2 tablet which provided the foundation for tablet multitasking. Although the device can only accommodate two programs opened at a time, it still offered better productivity potential than the iPad. This time, Apple appears keen on bridging that gap. The company has been working a multitasking support that can allow users to operate several applications at once.

Apple has not made official announcements about the iOS 8 yet. More information should be provided during the 2014 WWDC this June.
