Apple iOS 7 Gain More Users in Time for iOS 8 Release

By

Apple's iOS 7 saw a surge in adoption prior to the announcement of the iOS 8. Following Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, the company introduced the iOS 8 finally. As the iOS 7 adoption rate surges, analysts believe this is a good indication for Apple. Likewise, Apple along with other industry observers believes that the iOS 8 can be one of its biggest releases along with the iPhone 6. Will the iOS 8 have a similar adoption success?

Apple will not release the iOS 8 until fall but the number of people making the switch to iOS 7 should be a good indication on what people can expect from its release. Apple has strong background when it comes to previous users upgrading or replacing their current Apple product or service with Apple's updated version.

Chitka Insights, an ad networks analytics unit under Chitka, said that iPhone web traffic in North America mostly came from devices running iOS 7. That is 89.7 percent to be exact. As for the iPad, around 84.8 percent of the traffic came from units running the current OS. Despite the lower number compared to the iPhone, iPad's adoption growth has been the highest for the last three months.

The company did a similar study back in February. Around that time around 83.3 of the iPhone units run on iOS 7. From February, the number of people switching to the current OS increased by 5.4 percent. There is also an increase in iPad iOS 7 adoption starting from 78.5 and concluding at 84.8 percent this May.

The study also noted that there were more users who changed to iOS 6 in the previous year than those who installed iOS 7. Previously, iPhone users accounted for 92.7 percent while iPad users accounted for 82.9 percent. Apple Insider's report emphasized that the iPad data may be as such due to the number of iPad releases. Apple introduced the iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina around the same time.
