Game of Thrones season 4 ends: will George R.R. Martin Finish Winds of Winter on time?

By

Game of Thrones progresses into seasons 5 and 6, material from George R.R. Martin books dwindle. How to continue the show forward to season 7 sticking to the books, when Winds of Winter, the sixth book, is reportedly hundreds of pages smaller than his earlier works.

When this question weighs on the thoughts of fans, George R.R. Martin seems unscathed by the issue. International Digital Times reports there is no solution from the perspective of the show, while the author persists that HBO sign off on more shows. Yet, the next book set to release never cemented a date for debut.

Reporters sought out Martin's editor to confront her with the material dilemma Ann Lesley Groell. "I begin to wonder-though 7 is what we currently have under contract. I remember when he called me, years and years back, to confess that his little trilogy was...well...no longer a trilogy," she reflects. In retrospect, "I begin to wonder-though 7 is what we currently have under contract. I remember when he called me, years and years back, to confess that his little trilogy was...well...no longer a trilogy."

Martin echoes the sentiment of an 8 book trilogy, while the current goal remains at 7 books.

In an interview with EW: "My plan is to finish in seven. But my original plan was to finish in three. I write the stories and they grow. I deal with certain things and sometimes I find myself not at the end of a story. My plan right now is still seven. But first I have to finish Book Six. Get back to me when I'm half-way through Book Seven and then maybe I'll tell you something more meaningful."

When you put the sixth book, Winds of Winter in proportion to his past works - it is thousands to 168 pages submitted to his editor: huge difference. How about the following book, A Song of Springs? It still hasn't found its way to print or digital headlines- no news. From an optimistic perspective, EW points out that in spite of George R.R. Martins lack of planning - it does entail Game of Thrones plot line may incur a Richter 8 magnitude shift. The story could change "drastically".

George R.R Martin still believes there is no hurry pointing out that seven series will not be enough to cover up to A Song of Fire and Ice. The end of the journey is still a ways yet.

Martin also expressed disapproval to season 4 of Game of Thrones explaining:

"I like many of the new scenes they've inserted along the way, though I miss the things they leave out. Obviously I put those scenes in the books for a reason, I felt they added to the story. As I've been saying for years, I wish they had more hours -- every time I see another HBO show I wonder why we only have 10 and they have 13. But we've done some major stuff this year. The Purple Wedding and Tyrion's trial - with incredible performances by Peter Dinklage and Sibel Kekilli. And the trial by combat was amazing, too. I'm really looking forward to next week as I'm told we have a battle that dwarfs the Battle of the Blackwater."

Contrary to George Martin's hope, David Weiss and David Benioff of HBO shared they will not likely push the show past the seven seasons of Game of Thrones. Martin also believes that feature films will compliment the story telling of GOT- again chances of this happening are slim.

Entertainment Weekly speculates whether Martin truly has enough material for the remaining seasons or the author is pushing for more time to complete a thousand page odysessy from the mere 168 page Winds of Winter.

NDTV Gadget offers a different vantage point within the context of the show itself, each season thus far has paralleled the completion of each book. The same can be said for the fourth season: the second part of A Storm of Swords. A pattern shown as each of the seasons press towards the end, it puts a razors point to the violence in the ninth episode. Season 4 showcased especially heightened plot-line intensity as it is a culmination of all three books starting with Game of Thrones, following A Clash of Kings.

For the tenth episode titled The Children to wrap up the GOT fourth season based on the book- Bran's adventure to the North will end, while one hopes to see other sub-plots from beloved characters to surface in the the finale.

George R.R. Martin remains just as excited as his fans, if not more for what the 10th episode finale holds asking on his twiiter account to the 77k Game of Throne fans "Who is ready for #TheChildren tomorrow."
