Could we be seeing LeBron James in a Los Angeles Clippers jersey next season? One report is suggesting that its possible. The four-time season MVP and back-to-back NBA Finals MVP will have plenty of suitors this summer and the Clippers with Chris Paul and Rivers could be on his radar, ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne. suggests
The Clippers are looking into James as a contingency plan and the Heat recognize the fact the the Clippers are possibly their biggest threat to LeBron, especially if he chooses to opt out this coming 2014 NBA Free Agency. The main reason for this--why the Clippers are possibly the Heat's biggest competition--is LeBron's close ties with Clipper's star point guard Chris Paul and head coach Doc Rivers.
LeBron James enjoys a very close and personal relationship with Chris Paul--Paul is the Godfather of Bryce, LeBron's son, and both attended each other's weddings. The two NBA stars have also discussed the possibility of playing with each other since they were in high school, when the two met each other on the AAU and prep All-Star circuits. Meanwhile, Rivers, one of the best coaches in the league today, commands great respect from LeBron James after his Celtics met LeBron four times in the playoffs.
If LeBron makes the decision to join Paul, Rivers, and the Clippers, then the Heat would most likely ask for Blake Griffin in return. The Clippers would also have to make other moves to make a sign-and-trade work, mainly to clear off some salary so they wont have to deal with harsh luxury tax penalties.
But right now, we are still uncertain of James's future. The King of Basketball has not yet made a hint about his plans for the summer as he told the press: "I will deal with my summer when I get to that point. Me and my team will sit down and deal with it. I love Miami. My family loves it. But obviously right now that's not even what I'm thinking about."
But all in all one thing is for sure: If the Clippers make a move for LeBron James and LeBron gets interested, a deal is possible whether it involves Blake Griffin or another package of players.
